MELVIL POUPAUD (Loverboy)

Melvil Poupaud made his debut on screen at the age of 10 in Raoul Ruiz’ CITY OF PIRATES (1983), and was cast two years later in Ruiz’ L’EVEILLÉ DE L’ALMA and TREASURE ISLAND. In 1989, he appeared in Jacques Doillon’s THE 15 YEAR OLD GIRL, which earned him a nomination for the Best Promising Actor César Award. After a small part in Jean-Jacques Annaud’s The Lover (1991), Poupaud won another nomination for the Best Promising Actor César Award with his performance in Laurence Ferreira Barbosa’a NORMAL PEOPLE ARE NOTHING SPECIAL by (1992). In 1995, he appeared in Didier Haudepin’s THOSE WERE THE DAYS, and Danièle Dubroux’ DIARY OF A SEDUCER. The same year, he appeared in Eric Rohmer’s A SUMMER'S TALE.

Poupaud was reunited with director Raoul Ruiz in THREE LIVES and ONLY ONE DEATH (1995), GENEALOGIES OF A CRIME (1996) and TIME REGAINED in 1998. Other credits include Graham Guit’s SHOOTING STAR and THE KIDNAPPERS, and Marion Vernoux’ A HELL OF A DAY among others. He also starred in James Ivory’s LE DIVORCE and Noémie Lvovsky’s FEELINGS.

In 2005, Poupaud starred in the dramatic role of a young man who learns he is about to die in Francois Ozon‘s TIME TO LEAVE. He garnered great reviews and the Best Actor Award at the Valladolid Film Festival.

More recently he starred opposite Parker Posey in Zoe Cassevetes’ BROKEN ENGLISH, and in the Wachowski Brothers’ SPEED RACER. Poupaud is also a member of the rock group MUD along with his brother, Yarol Poupaud, and in 2002 released a solo album.
